We at Ada Beat have long experience working with remote teams and software developers from all over the world and especially with software development teams from Vietnam. In this 4 part series of posts we will share the challenges, benefits, a guide on how to start with remote software development teams from Vietnam and a guide on how to scale remote software development teams from Vietnam.

In this fourth post we will condense our competence and experience into a guide on how to scale remote software development teams from Vietnam.

The different ways to scale remote software development teams from Vietnam

1. Mixed teams
2. Mixed remote teams
3. Remote teams

Mixed teams

Mixed teams are where the software developers are located both at your local office and at a remote office in Vietnam. The software developers at your office can be both employed by your organization or by the consulting company that supplies the remote software developers. This is the easiest way to go from a local to a remote setup where the onboarding of the remote software developers will be quick and the remote software developers are almost an integral part of your local organization.

Mixed remote teams

Mixed remote teams are where software developers are located in Sweden but not at your office and are less integrated in your organization. Typically a product owner or project manager from your organization is involved with the mixed remote team and steers their backlog and what they deliver. Still if needed the software developers in Sweden can come to your office and can become a more integral part of your organization. This can be planned or on a need basis/demand.

Remote teams

As it sounds, all software developers are located in Vietnam. This both has it’s challenges and benefits. Typically a product owner or project manager from your organization is involved with the mixed remote team and steers their backlog and what they deliver. To get this to work smoothly and seamlessly over a longer period of time, we recommend traveling of both product owners, project managers and senior developers from Sweden to Vietnam. And when needed vice versa, sending senior developers from Vietnam to Sweden.

Summary

An organization that has started to work with senior software developers from Vietnam usually uses all 3 mentioned ways to scale. This as different applications/services can be in different parts of the life cycle and will have different complexity and suit different team setups.
